Adina Bailey, Take Them A Meal

Did you know that June has been celebrated as Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month since 1983? This month is dedicated to understanding, supporting, and advocating for brain health. Alzheimer's and dementia are progressive neurological disorders that affect many families. In honor of this month, I am sharing helpful ways you can support both those who suffer from one of these diseases and those who care for them.

Looking for a creative and thoughtful way to dress up your meal? Wrap your meal with a purple ribbon to help celebrate your loved one with Alzheimer's or dementia.
Stay and enjoy the meal with them. Your presence may provide an added sense of comfort and can remind your meal recipient to eat. Staying while they eat can also give their caregiver a moment to rest or catch up on other areas in the house that may need attention.
When taking a meal to someone with Alzheimer's or dementia, keep things simple, like providing a meal option that doesn't require cutlery for those who are in the advanced stages of the disease. Finger foods like cut fruits, broccoli florets, and even chicken nuggets can be simple and effective. I'm sharing this healthy chicken nugget recipe that looks delicious!
Consider special dietary needs: someone suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's may have specific nutritional requirements. Be sure to check for any special notes left by the meal coordinator that may be listed on the meal schedule. Here are a few healthy meal options from our recipe section.
I hope this gives you plenty of ideas to consider when taking a meal to someone with Alzheimer's or Dementia. Your presence, along with a delicious meal, will brighten your loved one's day!
