This year I’m hosting my family over for the big game Sunday, so game day food has been on my mind lately. I thought it would be fun to share a mix of dishes I’m planning on making, along with a few favorites my family has loved in the past.

And even if you’re not a big football fan, don’t scroll past. Some of these dishes work great for any gathering, or even as something thoughtful to include with a meal you’re taking to someone.

You know when you go to the movies and eat all the popcorn before the movie even starts? That’s my family. We tend to eat through most of the food before kickoff, so I always plan two appetizers. One for before the game starts and one for when everything mysteriously disappears, ha. So this year I’m making homemade pretzel bites and million dollar dip!

These are the dishes my family requests year after year. They’re nothing fancy, just the kind of food everyone really loves and always goes back for seconds. If you’re bringing a dish somewhere and don’t want to overthink it, these are safe bets.

I like having one dish that makes it feel like we’re eating an actual meal, not just snacking all afternoon. This Trader Joe’s pesto Chicken bake is filling, easy to serve, and also great options if you’re bringing a meal to someone or dropping food off for a friend.

I usually love making dessert anytime I’m hosting, but my mom offered to take it on for our game day party and when I heard she was making her peanut butter cup pie, I wasn’t going to argue. It’s a must-try. If you’re hosting a big get-together or game day party, cookie dipper cups are another great option. I made them for Valentine’s Day, but they’re just as perfect for a Super Bowl crowd.

And of course I had to mention our sister site Perfect Potluck because it’s the perfect time to use it. If you’re hosting a large crowd for the game and don’t want five people showing up with the same dish, Perfect Potluck is such an easy way to coordinate who’s bringing what. It takes the guesswork out of planning and makes game day potlucks feel way more manageable. Learn more here!
